Ways to be a Big

With various match options to fit any schedule, it’s never been easier to be a friend to a youth who needs the extra support of a one-to-one mentor.

Steps to Become a Big

Step 1: Submit an Inquiry

Let us get to know you! Submit an inquiry to learn more about becoming a Big.

Step 2: Attend a Volunteer Info Session
Once you submit your inquiry, a KSBBBS staff member in your area will reach out to schedule a 15-minute info session (virtually or in person) to learn about the youth we serve, our match options, and what a Big does.
Step 3: Complete Volunteer Enrollment

During volunteer enrollment, you'll work with our staff to complete paperwork, interview, home visit*, and Big training.

*Home visits are only completed for community-based Bigs.

Step 4: Choose your Little

Taking your personality, interests, and location into account, our staff will select up to three Littles who have similar interests to you. From there, you'll have the opportunity to read about each youth and choose your best-fit match.

Step 5: Meet your Match!
Once you choose your Little, your MSS will schedule a match meeting to introduce you and your Little! At this time, you'll get to know each other, go over ground rules, and receive match day goodies, all for a strong start to a beautiful friendship.

Being a Big has changed my life. I can’t imagine life without Macy. We do a lot of fun things together and I consider her family.

Being a Big is a very small fraction of your week or day and you get a lot out of it. It's well worth it.

Shayan, Big

Grant has impacted me to be the best person I possibly can be every day. I've seen him grow and I know if he can do it, I can do it so he's inspired me in ways to do the best I can...Grant has been the guy I talk to about stuff. Without him, I don't know if all of that would have built up. I wouldn't be who I am today without him.
