Meet Mason & Nero
Check out our December Match of the Month featuring Douglas Co. Big, Mason, and Little, Nero! They have been matched 1 year and already have great memories together!
How long have you been matched?
Mason: We have been matched a little over a year. We had our anniversary recently!
What were you nervous or worried about prior to meeting for the first time?
Mason: I was a little nervous and it felt like a big responsibility. Someone’s trusting me with their child. His family is easy going and flexible. I just didn’t want to overstep anything.
What was your first impression of each other?
Mason: My first impression was he was super nice, cute, positive kid. He is willing to try anything! Everything sounds like a great idea to him!
What is your favorite thing about each other?
Mason: He will always have a good time no matter what! Unless I’m doing an interview and not playing games with him.
What has been your favorite match outing/activity so far?
Mason: We went to the KC Zoo and spent all day there. He passed out on the way back home!
Nero: I like going to the library and play games. They also have some trains!
What is one thing you guys have learned from each other?
Mason: He’s got a good attitude! He is very go with the flow and just enjoy my time! Nero’s super nice and very friendly to everyone. He is always inviting people to play!
Nero: Learned how to play super smash bros.
What would you tell a potential Big/Little considering joining the program?
Mason: Definitely do it. I try to reassure people they would be great for this program. You learn a lot about yourself and you’re a good fit.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
Nero: I want to be a pro gamer!
Did you originally have hesitation about becoming a Big? If so, what was it and how has that view changed since being matched?
Mason: I was concerned about time, it’s not as bad as it seems and it’s manageable especially with meeting once every two weeks.
What’s the biggest change you’ve seen in your Little since becoming matched?
Mason: I think he has grown a lot from how comfortable he is around others.
What advice would you give to a new Big?
Mason: Just be yourself! If you try too hard to be something you’re not, it may just come off as not genuine.
